My degree is in Mass Communications, but please don't be alarmed. Despite my degree, my writing abilities landed me a position at VCU's Writing Center. I am able to help your child (elementary/middle/high schooler) look at writing from a different perspective. Writing is an exploration, not a means to an end. It is very metacognitive. A writer's PROCESS is just as important as the PRODUCT. This may seem a bit hard to believe, considering the pressures of writing put upon your child in the public school system, but it works! The philosophy of VCU's Writing Center (link below) is very important to me. I will use much of it during my tutoring session with your child. While my past experiences led me to NOT focus on grammar and syntax, I WILL cater to your child's specific needs. I understand that correct grammar and syntax is vital to the successful completion of English courses, especially at the lower levels. While one session WILL help your child, I strongly recommend multiple, which is why I offer a package at a discounted price. If your child has not started their upcoming paper, PERFECT. Let's have a session to discuss and plan ideas. The following session will be dedicated to developing existing ideas and organizing (rough draft of entire paper). The final session will be for proofreading and editing. I understand times are tough for everyone, which is why my prices are low. Most tutors charge $30+ for one hour. I charge $25 per hour but request that your child completes a FULL session, which is 1 1/2 hrs. One hour sessions simply are not long enough. By the time your child is comfortable enough to dive deep into the material, the session is half way over. PRICING: Single Session: 1 1/2 hrs for $37.50 3 Session Package: 4 1/2 hrs for $95 *Fees must be paid prior to first session. No exceptions. I do ask that we find a mutual meeting place that is conducive to your child's learning. Your child must also bring ALL necessary materials.
