Language arts, teaching, and public speaking represent my greatest passions. As a child, these areas interested me and are now the focus of a full time career. I believe in being open and compassionate with an ethical approach. I make genuine, honest connections with everyone and this infuses meaning into each tutoring session. It also provides a mutual understanding between myself and the students' lives I try to make a difference in. Language Arts is an essential subject, enabling students to develop their individual voices and connect on a much higher level. I can also help students learn college essay writing, essay editing, literature, phonics, grammar/mechanics skills.While studying at the University of Virginia, I pursued my English Language and Literature degree. Back then I was immersed in Modern American Literature and British Romanticism. I also have a passion for theater, personal development, contemporary fiction, and spiritual nonfiction. I'm certified as a ropes course instructor, work with students from grades 6-12 in English, and, for the last nine years, have been the instructor for two outdoor education programs. My various outside interests include yoga, which I hope to someday be certified to teach, music/performing arts, reading, health and wellness advocacy, and blogging.
